It’s that time of year again, the lush season when nature lovers get to go behind the tall gates that surround some of the loveliest estates in New Canaan to investigate and admire the work of gardeners with master hands. The Secret Gardens Tour, with roots that date back twenty-five years, will be in full bloom on Friday, June 6, and if the weather cooperates, the event could draw up to 700 people. Even in a downpour, though, this popular annual tour attracts hundreds of county residents who don raincoats and wellies for the chance to see the talents of local green thumbs. A half-dozen breathtaking properties will be open to the public for an afternoon of exploring. In past years, the tour has showcased landscape design in homes of mixed architectural styles and the organizers of the 2014 event promise more of the same. Proceeds for the tour, which is sponsored by Moffly Media and Elise Landscapes and Nursery, benefit the New Canaan Nature Center. newcanaannature.org
