The joy, thrill and romance of riding drew 5,000 riders, trainers and spectators to the 83rd Annual Ox Ridge Charity Horse Show in Darien. The show—a U.S. Equestrian Federation Hunter A-rated competition—culminated in a dramatic $30,000 Grand Prix during which Kevin McCarthy rode Vernal to victory. This year’s program also served as the kickoff to a major anniversary for the Ox Ridge Hunt Club, home to multiple generations of riding families. Ox Ridge turns 100 in 2014. The premier sponsor for the event was the Callari Auto Group. The show, which drew professional and amateur competitors, benefited Pegasus Therapeutic Riding Program, a nonprofit organization founded at Ox Ridge in 1975. Pegasus provides equine-assisted activities to children with special needs at four regional chapters. Students participate in both therapeutic horseback riding and unmounted programs that offer a wide range of physical, social, cognitive and emotional benefits.
