Darien Library's Fifth Annual Spring Gala
Party in Progress
Darien Library’s fifth annual spring gala, with live music and creative cuisine, drew more than 250 guests to the branch headquarters on the Post Road, where partygoers showed their support for the hub of this community. The event raised more than $100,000; proceeds will go toward the purchase of books, technology and DVDs, support for programs and the purchase of a generator so the building can remain open during a storm. The evening featured silent and reverse auctions and a live auction led by Philae Knight from Philips Auction House. Among the items up for bid were box seats to a Yankees/Red Sox game, getaways to Florida and Colorado, and a birthday party sleepover at the library for up to twelve children. Gala chairs Jessica Blouin and Rachel Donovan, along with board member Kerrie Kelley, led a team of volunteers who planned a lovely event, complete with catered eats by Simply Creative and the music of Doug Allen. Darien Library is unique among public libraries because all of the books, technology, DVDs and programs it provides to the community are supported entirely by private donations.
