New Canaan Nature Center
To celebrate the success of this year’s Secret Garden Tour, some sixty-five friends and supporters of the New Canaan Nature Center attended a Vines and Wines cocktail party in a private home with its own enchanted outdoor space. Wines were poured by Diageo, and Maria Selden Catering & Event Planning provided the hors d’oeuvres. The evening’s conversation circled around the five breathtaking gardens on this year’s tour, which attracted about 500 people and helped to raise more than $400,000 for the nature center.
The tour was sponsored by Bank of New Canaan and Elise Landscapes & Nursery. A portion of the proceeds from the tour will be used to restore the Nature Center’s grape arbor that was destroyed during the 2011 October snowstorm. There are also plans to refurbish the existing bird and butterfly garden. The Nature Center is an environmental education resource that offers residents the opportunity to interact with nature through exhibits featuring animals, natural science and horticulture.
