The Carver Foundation of Norwalk hosted its eleventh annual Child of America Gala at the Wee Burn Country Club in Darien. The event, which drew 300 Carver supporters, featured dinner and a live auction. The benefit raised nearly $300,000 for the free afterschool programs that Carver provides to children in Norwalk public schools.

Among the popular auction items was a weekend stay at the five-star Peninsula Hotel in New York City; the getaway included dinner at any restaurant and six tickets to any Broadway show. Another big auction item was a four-day stay at the Fairmont Mara Safari Club in Kenya. The most prized items, though, were two VIP passes to the Olympic Games in England.

The evening also featured an awards presentation during which Darien Selectman David Campbell, who is also CEO and president of Ring’s End, received Carver’s Community Builder award. Other notable guests included Congressman Jim Himes and Senator Richard Blumenthal
