The most popular dog breeds we’re seeing!

Getting a dog is a huge commitment, but perhaps one of the most worthwhile investments you can ever make. With that being said, it is important to put a lot of thought into what breed of dog you are going to make a part of your life. Everyone knows man’s best friend comes in an ever expanding array of colors, shapes, and sizes, so with the help of Darien store Paws and Reflect’s Becca Stanton, we looked into the area’s most popular dog breeds.

The Non-Shedding

Due to allergies and quite frankly the mess that shedding dogs can make, many families are turning to breeds such as the Goldendoodle, a cross between a Poodle and Golden Retriever, or the Cockapoo, a cross between a Cocker Spaniel and a Poodle. Both are medium sized dogs that run in a family of “hypoallergenic dogs” (although there is some question over if there can be a truly hypoallergenic dog) and make great family companions.

The Classics

Next we have the seemingly typical American family dogs, the Labradors and the Golden Retrievers. These are larger dogs that demand more physical care, which frequent sightings at the Waveny dog park can attest to, but this is a small price for what you gain. These dogs are generally loyal, extremely happy, and excellent companions for families and children.

The Little Guys

There are of course plenty of options for those who would prefer a smaller, perhaps easier to handle breed, with a popular option being the Coton de Tulear. As its name might suggest, the Coton de Tulear does resemble a cotton ball with its size and fluffy white fur, and is a playful and eager to please type of dog.

There is a dog breed out there to match every person’s lifestyle and needs, and whichever dog breed you choose, you can look forward to a long friendship and an invaluable addition to your life. And while these breeds are currently popular in the area, happy endings can come from anywhere, breeder or adoption, and any breed, the mentioned or the mutt.
